Answers to the common questions about what Rank Forge does, what it can access, and how the fixes work.
What does Rank Forge do?
Rank Forge audits the on-page SEO of your products, collections, pages and blogs — up to 100 pages per crawl on Free, 1,000 on Pro and 10,000 on Scale — and gives each audited page a 0–100 score across eight checks: title tag, meta description, single H1, image alt coverage, canonical link, Open Graph, JSON-LD structured data, and content depth. It shows a worst-first fix list so you tackle the biggest gaps first. On a paid plan it can also write one field — the SEO meta description — back to your store in one click.
How do I set it up?
Install Rank Forge from the Shopify App Store and open it inside your Shopify admin. Your first full audit starts automatically on install — pages appear on the dashboard as they're scored. You can re-run the audit anytime with the “Re-audit store” button. There's nothing to configure.
What data does Rank Forge access — does it see my customers or orders?
No. Rank Forge is Protected Customer Data Level 0: it never reads orders, customers or checkouts. It requests only read_products, read_content, write_products and write_content, plus your public storefront HTML and sitemap. It is structurally unable to read customer or order data because it never requests those scopes.
Does Rank Forge use AI to write my SEO content?
No. The audit is a deterministic parse of your page markup, and the one auto-fix — the meta description — is generated deterministically from that page's own title and description, then length-clamped for search results. No large language model is used and none of your content is sent to any third-party AI provider. The same input always produces the same result.
Will it change my store, and can I undo it?
The only automatic change Rank Forge can make is writing a grounded SEO meta description onto a product, collection or page — and only on a paid plan, only when you click to apply it. Every write-back is fully reversible: Rank Forge snapshots the exact previous value, so you can roll it back byte-for-byte. It never touches your theme, media, product titles, prices, or the other seven checks — those come with step-by-step manual guidance instead.
What's the difference between Free and the paid plans?
Free ($0/month) gives you the full on-page SEO audit, the 0–100 score, and a prioritized do-it-yourself fix list for up to 100 pages per audit — re-run it as often as you like. Pro ($29/month) deepens the crawl to 1,000 pages and adds one-click reversible write-back of the meta description, one page at a time. Scale ($59/month) crawls up to 10,000 pages and adds bulk write-back — one click fixes the meta description on up to 500 of your worst-scoring audited pages per run, so a store that fills the 10,000-page crawl takes several runs to work through it — plus scheduled automatic re-audit and an audit history of your last 365 store-wide scores. Billing is handled by Shopify and appears on your Shopify invoice.
Does Rank Forge re-audit my store automatically?
Partly, and it depends what you changed. When you edit a PRODUCT, Rank Forge re-audits that product automatically — on every plan, including Free. That is the only automatic trigger: Rank Forge subscribes to the products/update webhook only, so editing a collection, page, blog article or policy does not start a re-audit. Scale adds a genuinely scheduled store-wide re-audit that runs on a cadence without you doing anything. On any plan you can re-run the whole audit yourself at any time with the “Re-audit store” button.
What happens when I uninstall — and how does GDPR data deletion work?
When you uninstall, your shop is marked uninstalled and paid features stop. When Shopify sends its shop-redaction request (about 48 hours later), all of your shop's records — audit data, applied-fix snapshots and the stored access token — are permanently deleted. Because Rank Forge holds no customer data (Level 0), the GDPR customer-data-request and customer-redact webhooks are answered truthfully: there is nothing to return or erase.
Does a higher score guarantee better rankings or more traffic?
No. The score audits your page's own markup — it is not a measured search ranking, position, or traffic figure. Rankings and traffic depend on Google and other search engines, your competition, and factors outside any app's control. Rank Forge improves on-page hygiene, which helps search engines and AI understand your pages, but it does not and cannot guarantee a ranking, traffic or sales outcome.
